What is THC-P?

THC-P, also known by its scientific name (-)-Trans-Δ9-tetrahydrocannabiphorol,is a naturally occurring cannabinoid and a derivative of THC that can be found in various strains of cannabis. According to research, this compound appears to be 33 times more potent than THC in its ability to interact with cannabinoid 1 (CB1) receptors, resulting in an intoxicating and intense euphoric high. Surprisingly, this compound was discovered by Italian scientists in 2019 while examining a particular type of marijuana. In addition, THC-P can be effectively derived from hemp as it is synthesized from CBD, making it an appealing option for research and therapeutic applications.

THC analog is derived from hemp, and THC-P is not clearly categorized as a controlled substance. Federally legal researchers are researching the potential of THC, which can be more beneficial. The therapeutic potential is currently being investigated by researchers, and it may provide novel benefits. Early investigations and anecdotal accounts suggest that this potent compound may be comparable in efficacy to delta-9 THC, thus meriting significant consideration.

Delta 9 THC is considered the sole cannabinoid that has been nominated by the Convention on Psychotropic Substances, which means THCP is internationally legal. The legal status of THC-P differs slightly in the United States, where it is permissible only if it originates from hemp plants and not marijuana plants. However, the legality of cannabis can be complex, particularly when considering THC-P. Each state can make its own rules and laws for cannabis, THC-P is legal on the federal scale and could also be affected by independent state laws.

THC-P products are available in various forms, such as vape cartridges, disposables, tinctures, and edibles.

Effects Of THC- P

The effects of THC-P are considerably more potent than THC, being 30 times more biologically active. Consequently, the dosages required for THC-P and THC will differ significantly. Users of THC-P often describe its effects as a heightened rendition of THC, being nearly psychedelic in nature. As a result, smaller doses of THC-P are needed to achieve comparable effects to THC.

Recent research exploring the impacts of THC-P, individuals who have used it suggest that its effects are almost identical to those of THC. While THC-P and THC may share several benefits, there is one main difference.

While studying the effects of THC-P on human cannabinoid receptors, the Italian research team identified various physiological impacts including:

  • Analgesia (pain relief)
  • Stress relief
  • Hypomotility (slowing of movement)
  • Relaxation
  • Catalepsy (trance-like state)
  • Appetite stimulation
  • Decreased rectal temperature
  • A heavy mental and physical buzz

Potential Risk And side effects

Of course, THCP’s potent binding affinity could worsen the typical adverse side effects associated with THC, including dry mouth, dry eyes, anxiety, and paranoia. Excessive consumption of THCP may lead to undesirable side effects, such as dry mouth, dizziness, or lethargy.
